The Process of Product Creation
Craftsman Style Desk
| The first step in the process of building a desk, Gregory creates each piece that will be needed for the design. After Greg has laid all pieces out and makes sure that he has them in the right order, he then gathers glue and clamps. | ![]() |
| It is necessary to first do subassemblies before any major construction is done. Here Greg is fitting together the front piece that holds the drawers. | ![]() |
| Greg is now fitting together the side panels. He is using the Mortise/Tenon construction method. Once he has glued and tightly pieced the panel together he holds it in place with clamps, careful not to dent or ding the finish. | ![]() |
| The next subassembly Greg is working on is the back slats that fit into the legs of the desk. He uses the Mortise/Tenon Construction here as well as with the side panels. This insures precision fit. Greg makes sure the desk is sturdy and can be moved with little or no change to the structure or the durability of the desk. | ![]() |
| The subassemblies have all been put together here and now Greg will stain and polish the desk and fit the top on. The drawers are picture here for the first time and Greg has used splined mitre construction on the corners. They will be sanded down and made smooth. | ![]() |
| Here is the finished product. A beautiful cherry and walnut desk that will undoubtedly please the new owner. The walnut topped desk measures 30X64 inches. The legs, drawers, and side panels are cherry. The legs are 3" thick and the desk is 30" in height. This desk is pictured on the Furniture page as well as more original product pictures. | ![]() |
